Transition to Independence
A critical component of our Residential program is working with women to create housing plans and support them as they transition to independent living. However, the housing crisis in Waterloo Region has made it increasingly difficult for single parent families to find permanent homes.
To address this, we are exploring a new program, called Transition to Independence Program (TIP) to help connect young families with homeowners that wish to create rental space in their homes. TIP aims to:
- Walk community members through the process of building rental space and becoming a landlord.
- Build relationships between young families and homeowners to ensure a good rental match.
- Provide young families with rental subsidies and homeowners with rental security.
- Provide wraparound support to families in their new homes.
