Volunteer
Together, we are making a difference in the lives of vulnerable women and children
Volunteering empowers you to play an active role in serving your community. According to the Ontario Non-Profit Network, the volunteerism crisis we saw throughout the Covid-19 pandemic is beginning to ease. Still, it’s a big gap to fill to get back to where we were as a country. According to Stats Canada’s National Survey for Giving Volunteering and Participating in 2018, 12.7 million Canadians over the age of 15 volunteered 1.6 billion hours for charity and non-profit organizations. In 2022 however, Stats Canada reported that 65% of organizations were reporting difficulty recruiting new volunteers and 50% reported difficulty retaining existing volunteers.
Volunteering at Marillac Place
Marillac Place provides opportunities for volunteers to give their time in the areas of operations (eg. as socializers with the infants and mothers in residence), with special projects, fundraising events, and as members of our Board of Directors. Their work makes a meaningful difference in the lives of the women and children in our care.

Ways to Volunteer
Operations
The opportunity to work directly with the women and babies in our care and make a difference in their lives can be fun and rewarding.
“Volunteering at Marillac Place has been so eye-opening, showing me the resilience and strength in so many women in the face of adversity. It’s been such a pleasure to be even a small part of their journey and offer any support and relief.”
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors at Marillac Place governs the organization, providing direction in strategy, finance, and risk management, while also aiding in fundraising, community engagement, and leadership. Comprised of individuals with diverse skills and backgrounds, they collectively contribute to Marillac Place’s success and mission fulfilment.
“I began volunteering with Marillac Place in 2023. The work that I’ve done has been meaningful, if not glamorous: think putting together mugs for the “Mugs for Moms” campaign and walking from Uptown Waterloo to Downtown Kitchener as a Marillac Place representative in the United Way March of 1,000 Umbrellas. As a member of the Board of Directors and the fundraising committee, I look forward to continuing to volunteer for change with this important organization.”
